Alumni Rowing at The Charles

Not to take too much attention from the kiddes, but here is who else was there:

- Jordan Smith rowed in the Penn AC champ 8.
- Rob G. Canavan sculled down the course in the Masters Single.
- Jose Vosh represented in the Champ Single.
- Anne-Marie, Shelly, Schwegman, and Beth Goldstein (Burnham) tore it up in a lightweight 4. The tenacious four started off the line 13th, passed Cal Berkeley along with 2 other crews and finished 7th place out of 17th beating MIT, Radcliffe, Carnegie Mellon and others with Princeton only 5 seconds ahead of them.
- Sarah Kimbrough (Tourtellott), Joy Smith (Parrott) and Heidi Schafer (Schafer) rowed in the club 8

We ran into Jonathan Hehn - he works for the FAA and is currently stationed in the Everglades.
Justin Brinkworth, Suzanna Sayre, Melissa Hallow (Deen), Jim Kowalski, Steve Georgalis, Chris Houston, Jen Hanely and Kris Madia were all avid fans. It was quite a reunion, and Heidi orders out quite a lasagna.

ALUMNI Picnic!

So... our boathouse may not look like Harvard's boathouse... but it still holds a special place in all of our hearts. (And our Varsity Women look damn good rowing in front of it).

So, make sure you remember to come on out to good ole Roswell for the Alumni Picnic this Sunday at 2:30pm. Tell your old friends.

And NO! We don't care if you only rowed one semester or you're still around... Steve... We still want to see you! Come check out the new boats, the "shanty-town" look of our little area, and meet the new rowers & coaches.

Remember. Alumni Picnic. Sunday. 2:30. Roswell Boathouse. Did I mention there is free food? How about that there is a time change that day and you get an extra hour of sleep after that big party you are going to - so no excuses.

Did I say party? Oh my god, I think I did. In that case - come to mine. Saturday night. Here's the evite. Bring your friends. No GT crew event is good unless you're hungover. Am I right? (Sorry, no one under 21 is allowed in... so don't even think about it current GT Crew rowers).

Head of the Charles

Hello Alumni,

Here is a quick note on our performance this past weekend at the Head of the Charles - I'll send out another message a bit later with a bit more information about the team and where we are going this season...

First, the highlight of the race, was the performance of the men's Collegiate Eight taking SECOND place behind Trinity and ahead of programs like Michigan and FIT - last year's gold and silver medalists at Dad Vail!

The rest of the crews didn't fare as well with the Women's collegiate eight taking 46 out of 48 (thanks to an interference penalty), the Women's Club eight taking 40 out of 52 and the men's light eight bringing up the rear in that event. However, those finish results don't tell the whole story as 20 seconds (a turn here, a better stroke there) would have had any of these crews solidly in the middle of the pack. Parity is real in collegiate rowing. And so is youth on our squad - all but 2 of the women's squad is first year varsity. Most of the light eight is first year varsity as well (most of it is last year's silver medal frosh light eight). Bottom line: plenty of potential.

Stay tuned for more later including news on how you can help Georgia Tech Crew continue to make you proud!

Sincerely,
Ethan

WHOA!

Georgia Tech's Collegiate Men's 8+ just placed SECOND at the Head of the Charles! There were 41 boats entered in the race!

Correct me if I'm wrong - but I think this is the highest finish we've ever had at this race... am i right?

Join me in congratulating these rowers - as well as all the GT competitors this weekend. The varsity men & women were in Boston and the novice were in Knoxville.

I'll get more results up as soon as I can - I just received a phone call with this result.

**Special!!**

Thanks to one of our alumni, we have found a SPECIAL treat for you! It's a recording by a few of our very own alumni, made a few years ago to PUMP UP the team. Can you remember who it is?? Listen up.

If you remember correctly, there was one made for each regatta. This one, titled: "Chattavegas" was meant to be for the regatta this past weekend, The Chattanooga Head Race. So, it's a bit late. But expect the other ones on the Wednesday before the regatta... if applicable.

By the way, the results for GT Crew at Chattavegas are up on our site.
